The Certificate II in Community Services is a nationally accredited qualification and is designed to provide you with an introduction into the community services industry. Our qualification is aimed at those who are considering work in the community services sector or who have recently started an entry level position in a community services organisation.
This course offered by Matrix is suited to all workers from all backgrounds. However, it has been specifically designed for people with indigenous backgrounds or who work with indigenous communities.
The course provides underpinning knowledge and skills for working and communicating in the community services industry, dealing with diversity, greeting clients and responding to needs whilst also introducing skills in organisation, dealing with workplace problems, digital technology and the internet.
There are 9 units of competency within this qualification. We offer the 5 core units and 4 elective units listed below.
learn about what is required for workers to participate in safe work practices to ensure their own health and safety and that of others.
learn about working respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and /or Torres Strait Islander people.
learn how to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, management and other industry providers.
learn about being the first point of contact in an organisation, including how to greet clients and exchange routine information, to prioritise the individual’s needs, and to respond to immediate needs.
learn how to seek feedback for performance improvement in your role and use currently technology appropriate to the tasks.
learn about using digital technology in the workplace to complete routine workplace tasks.

learn how to interact with others including external and internal clients. Such as giving or responding to spoken work instructions, responding to customer queries and complaints, negotiating with co-workers and management, explaining a workplace procedure or taking phone calls from the general public or internal staff.
learn about using the internet securely, ending emails, searching for information using web browsers and interact securely and in a socially responsible manner with a range of different internet sites.
Entry requirements
This course has no formal educational requirements but we require that student’s must be 18 years or over when the course starts and complete a pre-training review.
Pre-training review
To assist us and our students in determining whether a course is suitable, and if there are any additional supports required we assess all students language, literacy and numeracy by asking you to undertake a review prior to your enrolment.
Course details
Face to face delivery over a minimum of 10 months
Classroom sessions run providing trainer led delivery using a combination of learning styles including group activities, discussion, role-play.
Assessments are conducted throughout the course incorporating written and observation methods
3 blocks of 4 days training are scheduled but we allow for flexibility in this schedule as we like to work with our clients to facilitate a productive learning program for students

RPL and credit transfer
We recognise statements of attainment issued by other training organisations from students and will provide credit transfers for units that have already been completed.

Fees and charges
Certificate II in Community Services CHC22015 course fee is $3200 per person*.
Recognition of Prior Learning fees are:
$80 application lodgement fee, plus
$1350 full course fee or;
$160 per unit (where the full course is not assessed).
* discounts can be offered where organisations enrol 2 or more students
Matrix are able to offer a limited number of Government funded traineeship places, for this course where students are based in the NT. Other Fees
For re-issuing Certificates and Statements of Attainment students will be charged $50.00 per document required. Payment is required prior to the documentation being re-issued.
Accreditation
This course is part of the Community Services training package and on successful completion of all the required units you will be issued with a nationally recognised qualification.
Partial completion of the qualification we will provide you with a Statement of Attainment indicating the completed units of competency.
Study pathways
After successful completion of this qualification further study pathways can be continued in Community Services at level III and onto level IV such as the Certificate III in Community Services or you may choose to specialise in a particular industry area, such as youth work, disability, alcohol and other drugs or mental health.
